A south-west wind change, expected from 9PM tonight, will push the Jamieson Track fire towards Lorne. CFA-DELWP Media Release
Incident Controller, Alistair Drayton, said anyone still in the Lorne area should expect an increase in smoke as well as embers.
“The strength of this wind change will alter the direction and behaviour of the fire.”
“We expect this fire to move significantly overnight and we ask the community to stay up-to-date with what is happening.”
“Our crews will be working through the night and our focus is continues to be on community safety and asset protection.”
“An emergency warning remains in place for Wye River and Separation Creek and evacuation of both towns has taken place.”
“At this stage we are not able to confirm how many houses in those areas have been lost.”
“We are strongly recommending that people in Kennett River and Grey River evacuate and seek shelter at 34 Costin Street Apollo Bay, Apollo Bay Leisure Centre.”
“A recommendation to evacuate has also been issued for Lorne, Allenvale, North Lorne and Cumberland River.”
“If you are located in these areas, we strongly recommend that you evacuate and seek shelter at 1 Merrijig Drive Torquay which is located in the Grant Pavilion behind the Municipal Offices.”
“The Great Ocean Road is closed for general traffic from Bell Brae, west of Torquay to Skenes Creek.”
“If you are travelling near fire affected areas please obey any traffic management, take care, slow down and turn your headlights on.”
